This is the first time I’ve tried to design a “Summer and Winter” weaving project. It has two sides. So named because the “Summer” side was lighter, and the “Winter” side was darker. In days past many bed counterpanes were made this way, as it was easier to wash things in the Summer, so the lighter side was uppermost.
I wove this rug on my floor loom. The warp is linen threaded at 5 epi. The weft is light and dark rug wool. Finished size, after washing in machine at 60 deg cotton wash is 47″ x 21″. It lost 4″ on the length and 5″ on the width after fulling .
It’s not the best photo, as I hung it over the line after I washed it, hence the ridge across the middle!. It’s now rolled up to remove the crease! And looking better!
